Ontario landlords get go-ahead for small rent hike

Landlords in Ontario have been given permission to raise rent by 0.7 per cent in 2011 -- the lowest rent hike for Ontario residents in the last 35 years.
Ontario cabinet minister Jim Bradley says the rent increase will strike a balance between what tenants can afford and what landlords can charge.
The guidelines provide the maximum amount a landlord is able to hike the rent without getting approval from the Landlord and Tenant Board.
The government says this year's guidelines for increasing rent are sitting at the lowest level in the history of Ontario rent regulation.
Meanwhile, a provincial landlords' organization is slamming the small hike. The group says landlords have been forced to absorb increased costs in hydro, gas and the HST, and can't afford such a small increase.

Here are the numbers for 2011 comparing 3 provinces:
B.C.: 2.3%
Manitoba: 1.5%
Ontario: 0.7%
Still thinking of voting for Dalton McGuinty's Liberals??

Went out and bought a copy of the Sun tonight.
The internet version isn't as striking as the print version. Print version has the headline
"Landlords Blast Preem"
And it shows how the increases since 2004 are all higher than 2011 with a nice chart. I'm sure this will get to McGuinty's office. Too late Dalt, too much bashing...time for you to go!

Why is Geordie Dent suddenly trying so hard to get into the media? Could it be they gave Rob Ford a D+ rating and are worried they will lose funding soon? Or trying to show influence so some members of their group can gain 'employment' with the City?
